Assignly: AI Teaching Assistant with Promise but Questions
Assignly is a new AI-powered teaching assistant designed to streamline various classroom tasks, including lesson planning, grading, and activity generation. It offers features such as an assignment generator, instant grading through AI evaluation of student work, and tools for creating engaging classroom activities like Bingo and icebreakers. Additionally, Assignly provides a custom AI chatbot for quick advice and an image generator to produce visuals for classroom use.
The Assignment Generator creates assignments based on your subject, difficulty level and format, and you can export the assignments in different formats. There is no limit to assignments that teachers can create, regardless of the user plan. For its part, the AI Grader evaluates student work based on the criteria you set. The Bingo Generator, which might be a hit with teachers, can be personalized to your desired theme and topic.
Tom Take: I am not sure what to make of Assignly. They have a flashy introductory video on YouTube that says little about the product. In addition, they decided to introduce the platform via Product Hunt, which seems like a strange place to try to attract teachers. Moreover, there is another product out there called Assignly, a project management tool, which is bound to confuse. In addition, there is no integration with Google Classroom or Canvas as yet. Finally, and most importantly, there is no free trial — despite what the company has announced. Click ‘Sign Up’, and you’ll immediately be instructed to pay for a monthly or yearly account, with no option for a free trial. Me, I’ll pass.
