Snorkl: Student Feedback on Multimodal Activities
Snorkl is an educational platform that provides instant, AI-driven feedback on students' verbal and visual explanations. It enables students to record their thoughts and draw/write using a virtual whiteboard, where they represent their thinking visually. Snorkl's AI then analyzes the student’s work and provides personalized feedback, emphasizing strengths and areas for improvement.
Snorkl enables students to record their work using video and audio.
Snorkl provides teachers with insights into student progress and understanding. The platform aggregates data from student submissions to help teachers gauge the overall knowledge of their students. Teachers can also use Snorkl to create and assign activities that are aligned with their curriculum. In addition, teachers can draw from Snorkl’s database of activities for Math, Science and other subjects areas.
Snorkl is both COPPA and FERPA compliant and does not sell student data. Teachers can use the service for free — up to 20 activities — and share activities with students via a code.
Tom’s Take: If you’ve used Seesaw, Snorkl will feel familiar with its emphasis on using a virtual whiteboard to demonstrate students’ thinking. Like Seesaw, teachers create classes and share activities with students, and students record themselves to demonstrate their work. But while Seesaw excels in creating student digital portfolios, Snorkel excels at providing immediate AI-generated feedback, both individual and collective.
That said, Snorkl is very much a work in progress. While there are plenty of Math and Science activities for grades 3+ (including activities aligned to TEK), there are no activities yet for History and Social Studies and only a handful for Reading & Language Arts and World Languages. In addition, there are no FAQs if you want answers to questions not covered in the introductory video. Finally, teachers may run through the 20 free activities quickly, and no upgrade is available to them. The “premium” plan is only available to schools and districts. As such, teachers may well abandon the platform.
In all, Snorkl is worth exploring if you teach upper elementary or secondary Math or Science. If you don’t teach those subjects, check back in a few months as Snorkl is adding activities to other areas.
